We are pleased to announce the successful preparation and shipment of a batch of high-quality stainless steel flanges. This order, comprising EN 1092-1 PN10 Weld Neck Flanges manufactured from premium SMO 254 (UNS S31254) material, is destined for a critical chemical processing application. Each flange, designated as “FLANGE,WNRF,BW,SMO254,DN50,PN10,SCH10S”, has undergone rigorous quality control to ensure full compliance with all relevant standards and customer specifications. This shipment underscores our commitment to delivering reliable components for the most challenging industrial environments.

Weld neck flanges (WN) are known for their extended tapered hub, which is carefully welded to the connecting pipe. This construction offers superior structural strength compared to other flange types, making them particularly suitable for applications involving high pressure, extreme temperatures, frequent thermal changes, and hazardous media. The gradual transition from the flange thickness to the pipe wall helps minimize stress concentration, ensuring that EN 1092-1 PN10 weld neck flanges serve as a durable and dependable solution for critical piping infrastructures.
The EN 1092-1 standard, established by CEN (European Committee for Standardization), covers circular flanges made from steel, including weld neck, slip-on, blind, threaded, and socket weld types. It specifies pressure designations from PN2.5 to PN400. For EN 1092-1 PN10 weld neck flanges, the PN10 rating means they are suitable for nominal pressure up to 10 bar. The standard also defines dimensions such as bolt circle, thickness, and facing type, ensuring compatibility across European piping systems.
The exceptional corrosion resistance of this shipment’s flanges is attributed to the use of SMO 254 (UNS S31254), a premium “super-austenitic” stainless steel. Its chemical composition is critical to its performance:
| CHEMICAL | C | Mn | Si | P | S | Cr | Ni | Mo | N | Cu |
| SMO 254 (UNS S31254) |
≤0.020 | ≤1.00 | ≤0.80 | ≤0.030 | ≤0.010 | 19.5–20.5 | 17.5–18.5 | 6.0–6.5 | 0.18–0.22 | 0.5–1.0 |
The mechanical properties of SMO 254 stainless steel ensure that the EN 1092-1 PN10 weld neck flanges can withstand significant mechanical stress and pressure loads. Key properties include:

The Raised Face (RF) is the sealing surface on these flanges. It features a small, raised circular area (typically 1-2 mm in height) around the bore. When two RF flanges are bolted together with a gasket (often a spiral-wound type) in between, the raised surfaces concentrate the compressive force onto the gasket. This creates a much more effective and reliable metal-to-gasket seal compared to a flat face, especially under variable pressure and temperature conditions, which is a key feature of the EN 1092-1 PN10 weld neck flanges we supply.
SCH10S is a pipe schedule number where the S stands for “Stainless Steel”. It specifies the wall thickness of the pipe that the flange is designed to weld to. For a DN50 (NPS 2) pipe, SCH10S corresponds to a specific wall thickness. This designation ensures that the flange’s welding neck is machined to the correct outside diameter and bevel to perfectly match the pipe, ensuring a full-penetration weld that is as strong as the pipe itself. This compatibility is crucial for the integrity of the entire system.
