What Is an ASTM A694 Threaded Flange
Threaded flanges are a kind of flanges assembled with pipelines by means of threaded connection, which are widely used in all kinds of industrial piping systems. Among them, ASTM A694 threaded flange is produced according to the ASTM A694 standard set by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) for carbon and alloy steel flanges used in high-pressure transmission systems. It has various material grades, such as Gr. F42, F50, etc.
Different grades correspond to specific chemical composition and mechanical property requirements, which can meet the needs of different pressures and temperatures. Threaded flanges are tightly fitted to the pipeline through precisely processed threads. Compared with welding, butt welding and other connection methods, their installation and disassembly are more convenient, which facilitates the maintenance and overhaul of the equipment and can effectively prevent the pipeline from loosening and leaking under the complicated environments of high pressure, vibration, etc.

Flange outer diameter and thickness
Measure the ASTM A694 threaded flange outer diameter with vernier calipers or micrometers, and measure the thickness with a depth gauge to ensure the radial adaptability of the flange to the pipeline and the gasket, and the thickness is up to the standard to ensure the compressive strength.
Flange inner diameter
Measure the inner diameter with micrometer or special inner diameter gauge to ensure a close fit with the outer diameter of the pipeline and prevent the installation gap caused by the deviation of the inner diameter, which will affect the sealing effect.
Bolt hole center circle diameter
Measure the symmetrical bolt hole spacing to calculate the PCD, hole diameter gauge to detect the hole diameter, to ensure uniform distribution and fastening of bolts, to prevent deviation due to the PCD leads to uneven stress on the bolts (such as unilateral stress is too large to cause fracture), or the hole diameter is too small to affect the installation.
Number and position of bolt holes
Check whether the number of bolt holes is correct, whether the distribution is uniform, whether the symmetry is accurate, to ensure the consistency of assembly and uniform force, to avoid assembly offset, connection is not secure.
Flange end surface flatness
Measure the maximum deviation between two planes of the flange (usually the sealing surface), to avoid bad sealing and ensure that it fits perfectly with the paired flanges or gaskets.
