What Is a Slip On Flange?

A slip on flange is a common type of pipe connection component that is fixed to the end of a pipe by welding. It is typically used in low-pressure or non-critical piping systems. It has a circular disc shape with a hole in the center that matches the inner diameter of the pipe, and bolt holes around the edge for sealing when mated with another flange. Installation involves simply inserting the pipe into the flange hole and performing a fillet weld, making the process relatively simple and cost-effective. It is commonly used in water treatment, HVAC, or general industrial piping systems.

ASTM A182 F304L Material:

ASTM A182 F304L is a widely used austenitic stainless steel, known as the low-carbon version of 304. It offers dependable corrosion resistance and outstanding weldability, making it suitable for pressure vessels, piping systems, and flange connections operating under high temperatures.

Chemical Composition

ASTM A182 F304L is built on an iron-chromium-nickel base, featuring 18-20% chromium for corrosion resistance and 8-13% nickel for structural stability. Its key characteristic is the ultra-low carbon content (0.03% max), which prevents chromium depletion during welding. Small amounts of manganese and silicon aid in processing, while impurities like phosphorus and sulfur are kept to minimal levels.

MAX 0.03 2.00 0.045 0.030 1.00 13.00 20.00 0.10

Mechanical Properties

This material has moderate strength, with a minimum yield strength of 170 MPa and a minimum tensile strength of 485 MPa. Its outstanding features are its excellent ductility (more than 30% elongation) and its exceptional toughness, which is maintained even in low-temperature environments.
